Our next casual day fundraiser will be held on the last day of Term 3, Friday 24^th September, supporting the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Make-A-Wish is an Australian charity that creates life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses.

Several of our Mitcham students have received a wish, which has supported them and their families and provided a positive focus during challenging times.

Each child's Wish Journey is carefully planned and delivered over several stages to create a positive, lasting impact. Wishes are designed to complement a child's medical treatment, working to calm, distract and inspire at a time they need it most. When a wish is realised, a child discovers that despite their situation, anything is possible. In this way, wishes deliver both an immediate boost and long lasting effect on the lives of sick kids, their families and communities.

Through SRC discussions and class meetings, students have elected the casual day dress theme to be purple and yellow. These colours have historically been connected with Make-A-Wish.

We look forward to seeing everyone in their purple and yellow clothes. Students may wear a little colour or wear a lot, but please make it SunSmart! Don’t forget to bring along a gold coin donation.

The MPS 90's Quiz Night is now on Saturday November 13th. Get your group of friends together, organise a table of 10 and decide on a table name. Table of 10 bookings are now open via Qkr!

Raffle tickets are also on sale via Qkr! 1 ticket for $5 or 5 tickets for $20. 

We would appreciate any support that can be offered in the way of donations (items or vouchers) that can be used for our silent auction or raffle.

All businesses will be advertised in our promotional material, as well as receiving recognition in the school newsletter prior to , and after the event. If you would like to email your business name/logo or a brochure, we will display these on the night as well.

Uniforms are available to be ordered via the Qkr! app. Orders will be delivered to the child's classroom within a few days. It is therefore important that student details such as room number are updated in Qkr. Due to ongoing Covid-19 restrictions the Uniform Shop will not be open for the remainder of the year.

Please remember to name all hats and jumpers as we are inundated with lost property as the season changes. Lunch boxes and drink bottles should also be clearly named. Students are able to collect any lost items from the lost property cupboard in the Ngungana building any time. Younger students can take a buddy to help them find their belongings. 

Thank you to all the families that order from the canteen, we really appreciate your ongoing support. Some children have been asking when we will be serving over the counter again. At this stage we will be continuing with our current system of ordering recess online, keeping the windows closed for the rest of the year. This will be reviewed again at the end of term 4. 

We would like to send out a big thank you to our wonderful team of volunteers who have been a tremendous support, particularly during this time while Anita is out of action. 

We are experiencing supply issues with some of our stock, so there may be some favourite items missing from our menu for a while. In particular, we have a limited number of the Ice Mony Triangles, that once gone will be out of stock until Feb/Mar 2022. There are a couple of new iceblocks (Lemonade Icy Poles and Sour Zings – a tube in a choice of 3 flavours randomly selected) that we have added to QKR for your consideration. 

The issue of dwindling numbers of volunteers is still a problem for us, so if you have, or know of someone who could help us out for a few hours even just once a month please contact the office and let them know of your expression of interest. There is a morning shift from 9.00am-11.30am and lunchtime shift from 11.00am -1.30pm every day or you may also stay for both if you wish, we would love to see you.

Cricket and Touch Football players are required. If your child would like to play cricket or touch football in term 4, please contact the sports coordinator, Michelle Gabrisch at michelle.gabrisch115@schools.sa.edu.au

Cricket urgently requires players in years 4, 5 and 6. Touch football is for years 4-7 only.

The year 3 soccer team participated in a soccer carnival on Monday 13th September. It was freezing cold, but the children had a lot of fun. Well done to all players.

Jonny O’Donohue was selected in the Year 6 City South Football (Soccer) team to compete at the 2021 Sapsasa State Metro Football Carnival. Over three days, the City South team played twelve challenging matches and ended up coming 3rd overall which was a great result!

Year 5 Soccer Team - Very proud of this team as they have improved so much during the year. We had some great wins during the year and had a lot of fun. Looking forward to next year.

The Year 7s will be going on camp to Iga Warta, in the Flinders Ranges, during Week 10.

This much anticipated trip will see students given opportunities to learn about the local culture and history of the area. Keep an eye of our Facebook page for daily updates.

Book Week

We have celebrated Book Week with many activities in the Library. Classes have enjoyed taking part in the Book Week competition and quiz; many children have had their photos taken with the Old Worlds, New Worlds, Other Worlds cut outs; classes have been reading books from the shortlist and creating marvellous art for the library; and, the Great Book Swap has been busy all week with children bringing gold coin donations and choosing a book or two to take home.

 A special thank you to everyone for bringing along books to donate to the Great Book Swap. All money raised will be donated to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation. 

Big Read

On Thursday children were excited to move around the school for the Big Read. Classes were mixed R-7 with students enjoying interacting with those in younger and older years. Teachers shared favourite books and then everyone completed an activity. There were chalk drawings, frog pegs, monster book marks, Truffula trees, oops’ made into beautiful drawings, chameleons showing their true colours, chocolate games, bin chickens taking selfies…. What did your child do?

Premiers Reading Challenge

On Wednesday Rooms 1, 2 and 3 had a visit from Premiers Reading Challenge Ambassador and puppeteer, Sue Harris and Premiers Reading Challenge Manager, Mark Williams. Sue detailed the importance of reading to develop her puppet characters and encouraged all students to complete the Premiers Reading Challenge. Sue and her beautiful puppets had the children laughing along with their antics.

For those students who have not quite finished the Premiers Reading Challenge, the closing date is next Friday, 3 September. If students need any help please send them to see us in the library.

We watched crystals growing under microscopes, fired projectiles (marbles) from spring loaded launchers to see how far we could make them go, and saw a fun science show including the presenter laying on a bed of nails, as well as (safely) setting his hand on fire! We patted sheep, goats, alpaca, chickens and saw many other farm and native animals that are cared for at Urrbrae. The sun was out all day, and we had a fabulous day learning about all sorts of science and nature.
