Last week, our school came together to celebrate Harmony Day, a special time to recognise and appreciate the diverse backgrounds that make up our community. Throughout the week, students took part in activities to explore the meaning behind Harmony Day, reflecting on the importance of inclusivity and belonging.
A highlight was the creation of our Harmony Week Banner, proudly displayed at the front of the school. Featuring the student-chosen message, “We may all be different flowers growing in different gardens, but we still belong in the same bouquet,” the banner was a wonderful reminder that, while we may all be unique, we are stronger together.
Our Harmony Day Assembly on Friday was a fantastic celebration, with so many families joining us. Students shared messages about their cultures, giving us all a chance to learn and appreciate different traditions and languages. Year 6 student Samreen and her dance teacher gave a beautiful cultural dance performance, and the cultural dress parade was a great way for students to proudly showcase their heritage.
The assembly finished on a high note as the whole school sang "We Are Australian" together. It was amazing to see a sea of orange, the official colour of Harmony Day, which represents communication, connection, and respect.
A big thank you to everyone who helped make Harmony Day such a special occasion. It was a wonderful reminder that at Mitcham Primary School, everyone belongs.
