A Message from our Pastoral Care Worker

The school year has got off to a great start, our students have settled in well and are enjoying being with their friends.

In my role, I provide support for members of the school community – students, staff and families. Some of that involves checking in with students who might be finding things difficult at school or at home or referring families to support networks. If you would like to find out more about my role, I can be contacted through the front office or by email julie.ascherellis43@schools.edu.au. I am at school on Wednesday, Thursday from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm and Friday 12:30 pm to 3:30 pm.

Some of the services I provide are help with social skills, making friends and other friendship issues. I help students understand their emotions, such as feeling worried or anxious and teach them strategies to self-regulate. These services are in addition to the classroom curriculum provided by teachers.

I work with students, individually, in small groups or as a whole class and work alongside staff to offer support to students in the classroom.  I model inclusivity and getting along with others as well as taking turns and using friendly body language. My lunchtimes are spent in the yard where I have the opportunity to interact with students in a relaxed environment.

I organise transition programs for students to help them prepare for High School. This year I will be holding separate sessions for Year 6 and Year 7 students and inviting representatives from all the High Schools that our students will be attending to join us.

If you have concerns about your child/children please contact their classroom teacher in the first instance. Consent for Pastoral Care must be signed before I am able to work individually or in small groups with your child.

It does take a village to bring up a child and we are here to help.

Julie
