CONGRATULATIONS - DEVONSHIRE & MELLOR!
Thank you to all who attended our Sports Day this year. The rain cleared up early in the morning and it was a beautiful day to be outside.
Mellor emerged victorious, earning the highest number of points and proudly taking home the Sports Day Shield. Their dedication and hard work truly paid off.
In addition to the competitive spirit, we also celebrated the embodiment of our school values. This year, the Values Cup was awarded to Devonshire for their outstanding demonstration of school values and excellent fair play throughout the day.
We would like thank all the teachers, SSO’s, parents and students who played a crucial role in making the day a success. A special mention goes to our House Captains, who dedicated countless hours to practising the health hustle, setting up early in the morning, assisting teachers during events, and organising their houses for sprints, relays, and chants.
We look forward to going again next year with our new house names!
Exciting News: New Sports House Names for 2024
We are thrilled to announce that starting from 2025, our school will have new names for our sports houses. As a school community, we felt it was important that our house names are relevant to our students and acknowledge the Kaurna land on which we learn and many of our students and families live.
Throughout this year, our Year 3-6 Student Representative Council (SRC) worked with Miss Scriven to decide on the type of house names our school wanted moving forward. These names were then submitted to Kaurna Warra Karrpanthi for appropriate approval. We extend our gratitude to Kaurna Warra Karrpanthi for the work their volunteers do to revive, research, and promote the Kaurna language.
We are pleased to share that our request to use Kaurna animal names from 2025 has been granted approval. We were also provided with audio samples to ensure we respect the language with appropriate pronunciation.
We are excited to share with our community that from 2025, our sports house names will be:
Tarnta (red kangaroo) – Red
Ngakala (rainbow lorikeet) – Green
Ilya (snake) – Yellow
Kuri Kuri (young emu) – Blue
Thank you for your continued support and enthusiasm as we embrace these meaningful changes.
