Pastoral Care

Julie Ascher EllisHello I am excited to be working at Mitcham Primary School as your Pastoral Care Worker.  My role is to support the wellbeing of students, staff and families.  I will promote student wellbeing, by offering social and emotional support to students. I will be running Social Skills programs and using resources to help students develop friendships, independence, confidence, resilience and emotional regulation.

A little about me: I have an adult son and live at Mt Osmond. My special interests are science, gardening, cooking, woodwork, sewing, knitting, crochet and paper crafts. For the last 7 years I have been working with children aged from 4 weeks to early teens, coordinating a crèche, play group, children’s and youth activities.  I also working 12 hours per week as a PCW at Goodwood Primary School (a position I have held for 3 years).

I believe that children are our most precious resource; it is an honour and a privilege to be able to work with them and their families.  I model inclusivity, being welcoming, friendly, supportive, showing hospitality and compassion towards others.

I use my creativity and sense of fun to interact with children and youth, using games and craft activities to address current issues.  I’m keen to help students understand that there are people less fortunate than themselves and there are things we can do to help others including involvement in community projects for example supporting less privileged families or raising funds for charity organisations.

If you have concerns about your child/children please talk to your child’s teacher in the first instance. Before I can work with students individually or in small groups a permission slip will be sent home and must be signed and returned.

If you have any questions or comments about this article I will be at school on Wednesday and Friday afternoons and most of Thursday. I can be contacted through the front office or by email julie.ascherellis43@schools.sa.edu.au.
